SCOTUS Rules For Trump Admin on deportation 1798 law
“The Supreme Court in a 5-4 ruling on Monday handed President Donald Trump a major victory by allowing him to invoke the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to deport suspected gang members of Tren de Aragua for the time being.
The ruling overturns U.S. District Judge James Boasberg's March 15 order that temporarily blocked deportations under the wartime act, by granting the Trump administration's request to vacate temporary restraining orders Boasberg placed on the order.” - Just The News

Stellantis “pauses” Canadian and Mexican Auto Plants
Stellantis is pausing vehicle production at two North American facilities—one in Canada and another in Mexico—following President Donald Trump’s announcement of 25% tariffs on foreign-made cars. The move marks one of the first corporate responses to the administration's push to bring back American manufacturing.

Meanwhile, General Motors appears to be responding differently. According to Reuters, GM told employees in a webcast Thursday that it will increase production of light-duty trucks at its Fort Wayne, Indiana plant—where it builds the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. These models are also assembled in Mexico and Canada, but GM’s decision suggests a shift in production to the U.S. could be underway in light of the tariffs. - MXM
GOP Senate Advances Sweeping Trump Tax Cut Plan
“Senate Republicans took a procedural step forward on President Donald Trump's sweeping tax cut agenda on Thursday, overcoming concerns among some Republican lawmakers that the plan does not include sufficient spending cuts.
The Senate voted 52-48 to move forward with the framework to address Trump's proposals for tax cuts, border enforcement and increased military spending, which nonpartisan analysts warn could add $5.8 trillion to the federal government's debt over the next decade.
Lawmakers hope to pass the resolution after up to 50 hours of floor debate, and send it on to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.” - Newsmax
The Panama Canal Is More Important Than Ever. The U.S. Can’t Do Without It. - Barron’s 4 Apr 2025
“President Donald Trump’s goal of making the U.S. more energy dominant means the Panama Canal will play a growing role in moving petroleum exports around the world.
The U.S. already is the world’s largest energy exporter. The canal has been key for shipping liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) from Gulf Coast refineries to growing markets in Asia. LPG is critical for many industrial applications in addition to being a popular fuel for backyard grills, gas fireplaces, and portable heaters.
Production of petroleum products including LPG has been growing as fracking increases oil and gas production in the Permian Basin spanning West Texas and southeastern New Mexico. The Trump administration’s “drill, baby, drill” mantra is likely to result in more U.S. shale drilling and offshore drilling, as it strips away regulations and opens federal lands to more energy production.
At the same time, the Panama Canal Authority is looking to attract more LPG shipments. Energy products represent about 34% of canal transits, according to canal authority data for the year ended in September. The canal authority expects all types of energy exports from the United States to more than double by the end of this decade, and much of that could head through the canal.”
