After years of preparation, Israel launches major offensive against Iran and its nuclear program
IAF strikes hit nuclear sites and in Tehran
Decades of Israeli warnings against Iran’s nuclear program and preparations for military action to thwart it culminated early Friday morning with the Jewish state launching a major offensive against the Islamic Republic, striking nuclear sites, military facilities, missile bases and senior leadership.
Jerusalem said it had engaged in a “precise, preemptive strike” against Iran, declaring an imminent threat from its nuclear program and announcing a domestic state of emergency as citizens braced for retaliation. Top officials warned of a potential prolonged conflict, noting that Tehran had the power to inflict significant pain upon Israel.
Multiple waves of Israeli strikes were reported throughout Iran for several hours, starting at around 3 a.m. and into the morning. Over 200 Israeli Air Force aircraft were involved in the opening strikes, and fighter jets dropped over 330 munitions on some 100 targets, the IDF said.

Mossad set up drone base in Iran
UAVs took out missile launchers overnight
Israel spent years preparing for the operation against Iran’s nuclear and missile programs that was launched early Friday morning, a security official told The Times of Israel, including building a drone base inside Iran and smuggling precision weapons systems and commandos into the country.
The operation — dubbed “Rising Lion” — saw more than 200 Israeli Air Force aircraft participate in the opening strikes, as fighter jets dropped over 330 munitions on some 100 targets, the IDF said. Israel billed the strike as “preemptive” and “precise,” and said it had no choice but to damage the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic, which vows to destroy the Jewish state.
The effort hinged on tight joint planning between the Israel Defense Forces and the Mossad intelligence agency.

Israeli Air Force strikes Iranian air defenses
IDF hails 'historic moment'
In a redux of the 2024 attacks1 Israel wipes out Iranian air defenses.
The operation started with attacks on top Iranian officials, both military chiefs and nuclear scientists.
Following this, the air force struck broadly against military positions, ballistic missile, attack drone capabilities, and air defenses.
The 2024 Israeli attacks on Iranian air defenses occurred on April 19, 2024, and October 26, 2024.
April 19, 2024: Israel conducted a limited airstrike targeting an air defense radar site at an airbase near Isfahan, Iran. The strike damaged or destroyed a component of an S-300 air defense system, specifically a radar site guarding the Natanz nuclear facility. This was in retaliation for Iran's missile and drone attack on Israel on April 13, 2024.
October 26, 2024: Israel launched a larger operation, codenamed "Days of Repentance," involving three waves of airstrikes targeting around 20 military sites in Iran, including air defense systems. The strikes hit radar and air defense batteries in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces, as well as defenses protecting critical energy sites like the Bandar Imam Khomeini petrochemical complex and the Abadan oil refinery. The attack significantly damaged Iran's S-300 systems and other air defense infrastructure, with reports indicating nearly all of Iran's advanced S-300 systems were rendered inoperable. This was in response to Iran's ballistic missile attack on Israel on October 1, 2024.
